Frequently Asked Questions and Answers on buying your dress

Do I need an appointment?

Yes by having an appointment ensures a dressing room is available when you arrive.

What kind of dresses do you have?

We offer new and gently used preowned dresses. Our dresses less than five years old in current styles, with an occasional vintage or couture exception. What is the price range of your dresses? Most of our dresses are priced at half or less of their original retail price, and range from $99 to $1500. The average price varies as dresses come and go but is generally around $400 $500.

Where do you get your dresses?

Our store receives dresses from many sources. We have recently worn dresses from local brides or wedding boutiques that are closing or have excess inventory. We do not own the dresses; we are representing the sellers. If we find a home for a dress, the seller gets paid; if we cannot find a home for the dress, it is returned to its original owner.

Why do people want to sell their dresses?

We would need a couple of pages to list all of the reasons! The top 5 reasons we get dresses: the bride bought multiple gowns, the couple is moving and doesn’t want to ship it, the couple is having a baby and need the space and money, the dress and/or its box takes up an entire closet, and last but definitely not least, the couple wants someone else to enjoy it as much as they did.

What should I expect at my appointment?

Expect to relax and have fun! When you arrive let us know which Gown/s you would like to try on from previously viewing them from our web site gown gallery . A knowledgeable consultant will be on hand to offer assistance based on your preferences and budget, should you wish. When you are ready to try on gowns, you will have a private dressing room and your consultant will help you with all the zippers, layers, and buttons.

Who should I bring with me?

You are welcome to bring as many people along as you like, though space is limited and it may get a little crowded with groups over four. Many women find it helpful to come to the first visit alone or with one friend and then come back for a second appointment with additional friends and family after they have narrowed their selection to a few gowns. Please do not bring children under 10 years old. We want this day to be all about you! We also want other brides to have an enjoyable experience. We reserve the right to ask that unruly children be taken outside.

Can I take pictures?

Absolutely!

Will you hold a dress for me?

A wedding dress is a big purchase, and we respect that you may want to “sleep on it.” We can hold a dress for 24 hours. The dress will be put in a garment bag in the back and no one else will be allowed to try it on or purchase it until the hold period is up. If you decide to go ahead with the purchase, please email or call us to make arrangements to buy and pick up your dress!

Are the prices negotiable?

The prices of the dresses are firm. When a gown is placed on consignment, we negotiate a price that balances the interests of the seller with those of our clients and that reflects the condition and age of the particular gown. If you would like, we will only show you dresses that are within your specified price range.

How do I know if the dress can be altered to fit me?

In most cases we can provide guidance on what sort of alterations a gown will need and the level of difficulty. If the gown is going to need significant work or there is a question as to whether or not the gown can be altered at all, we can put the gown on hold until our in house seamstress can come and see the dress.

Can I order a dress I like in a different size or color?

No.

What you see is what you get! How long do dresses “hang around”?

There is no good answer to this question! The average is about six months, but individual dresses vary widely. Some are sold the same day they are dropped off and some take nearly a year to find the right home. All we can honestly say is that “if it’s meant to be, it will be”!

How often do you get new dresses?

We receive new gowns every week. The fun (and frustration) of consignment is that we never know what is going to arrive! We do our best to post each gown on our Web site when it arrives so you can monitor what comes in.

Does my dress need to be cleaned before I wear it?

Dresses are cleaned before they are placed on consignment and are checked over and spot cleaned before they go home. Keep in mind the dress may have been tried on while here at the shop and we are happy to clean the dress again for a $50 fee.

Will you store my dress?

We are happy to store your dress for a week after it is purchased. If you need us to keep it longer there is a small weekly storage fee ($25/week)) or we can make special arrangement for long term storage ($75/month).

How do I get my dress altered?

When you purchase your dress we can set up a alteration appointment with Fit for a bride’s in house alteration department

Can I return my dress or accessories?

ALL SALES ARE FINAL.

Can you let me know when a dress I like comes in?

Due to the volume of requests, we regret that we cannot provide individual notifications. If we don’t have what you are looking for, we encourage you to check on our web site for new gowns posted.
